With heavy hearts, the Lyndhurst Fire Department announces the passing of Active Firefighter Paul N. Haggerty of Engine Company #1. Firefighter Haggerty dedicated an extraordinary 50 years of service to the department and the community of Lyndhurst.
In addition to his service with the fire department, Paul held the role of Emergency Management Coordinator and was a retired Captain with the Lyndhurst Police Department. His career stands as a testament to unwavering public service, leadership, and deep commitment to the safety and well-being of Lyndhurst residents.
Paul’s legacy continues through his family: he is the proud father of current Chief of Department Paul F. Haggerty and Ex-Chief Nicholas Haggerty. His influence and devotion to public safety have left a lasting mark on both the department and the township.
Wake services for Firefighter Haggerty will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2025, with funeral services following on Friday, May 2, 2025. Details regarding times and locations will be shared by the department and local officials.
Chief Paul F. Haggerty expressed heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of support, stating, “My father was a role model to many—always the first to respond and the last to leave. His passion for service inspired generations, including his own sons. We are devastated by his loss but honored to carry forward his legacy.”
